Bangalore: According to a recent AMR Research analyst report, IBM is set to expand its India division with plans to double its current headcount to about 1,00,000 over the next four years. The company has been adding 1,000 new employees each month, every quarter to meet its expansion plans and reach the projected growth. This news comes after IBM Chairman and Chief executive Officer, Samuel Palmisano announced tripling its current investment to the country to over $6 billion over the next three years. With over 300,000 employees in 27 worldwide locations, India happens to be IBMs largest base outside the U.S. The skill sets and the expertise were marked as major reason for this expansion plan while Palmisano added that the investment would ensure a global presence for the market. Though the numbers cant be verified due to IBM’s strict hiring policies, it's reasonable to speculate that between March 2006 and March 2005, IBM raised head count in India from 23,000 to 39,000--an increase of 70% in just one year. Other companies to join the bandwagon include Accenture and EDS, who have restored to aggressive ramping up of their Indian subsidiaries to cater to the growing outsourcing phenomenon.
