BANGALORE: IBM India and BITES have launched a project INVITE (Initiative to Nurture a Vibrant IT Ecosystem), to improve academic excellence in Karnataka. The Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology and the Board for IT Education Standards (BITES) have signed a MoU in this regard. The project INVITE will contribute on capacity building efforts in the State by enhancing the local talent pool and leveraging the eco system to fuel the growth of IT at the grassroots level. Project INVITE compliments the IBM Academic Initiative, a programme to help universities train students on open source, open standards-based technologies and IBM Technologies for a more competitive workforce. Apart from this the company will also extend this projects to other states in the country, according to the company’s statement. Among other things, INVITE would help in building a repository of E-Governance Prototype / POC (Proof of Concept) solutions and make it available to government agencies, solution providers and academia. Students’ academia would also be involved for creating prototype solutions for local e-governance needs at various levels. The training workshops will cover Linux, Java, Eclipse and, localization issues (Kannada user interface).
