New Delhi: The Hyundai Motor India is planning to hike the prices of most of its models, including the recently launched "i10", a top company official said Thursday. "We have decided to increase the price of i10 by Rs 5,000 along with other cars," Hyundai Motors India Ltd's senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Arvind Saxena said at the Auto Expo 2008 here. The new prices are effective Jan 12. The South Korean carmaker's new car "i20", which is an upgraded version of the i10 now on display at the expo, will hit Indian roads later this year. The i20 will be manufactured exclusively in India and is expected to cost between 500,000 and 600,000 ($12,500-15,500). Both the i10 and i20 models will be manufactured at Hyundai Motor's plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Hyundai is also ready with the diesel variant of i10, which will be out by 2010 and "Santa Fe" - its premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) - that will be launched in April next year. "We have only petrol variants of i10, but we hope to roll out the diesel variants by 2010. We will also launch Santa Fe, a totally imported SUV from South Korea, in India in April or May next year. Santa Fe will be priced at around 2.2 million," Saxena added. Hyundai clocked a growth of 18 percent during December 2007 in the domestic market. This year the company's domestic capacity would also increase from 200,000 units to 250,000 units. Hyundai's concept car "Veloster" managed to grab some spotlight Thursday, which was dominated by Tata's Nano. "With Veloster, we wanted to try something really different. We're keenly aware that we need radically new products for the Y-generation, the first-time twenties-something buyer," said Saxena.
