Hyderabad: IndiaSoft 2007, an international IT exhibition and conference to showcase India's cutting-edge IT capabilities and outsourcing strengths to the global IT and business community, is beginning here Tuesday. About 90 tier-II and tier-III IT and ITES companies will exhibit their products and services during the two-day event, which will also attract 150 outsourcing companies, software buyers and delegates from several countries including non-traditional markets. IndiaSoft, the annual event being organised by the Electronics and Computer Software Promotion Council (ESC), a government sponsored body, brings small and medium IT and ITES companies from all over the country and solution seekers and buyers from around the world on one platform. The event, being held since 2001, coincides with Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), the flagship event of Dubai World Trade Center, beginning at Hitex international exhibition center near Hitec City, the hub of IT companies in Hyderabad. IndiaSoft, being held for the first time in Hyderabad, is expected to generate a business of 2.5 billion to 3 billion. "It is different from other events since the emphasis is to showcase the achievements of the small and medium enterprises in this area," said D.K. Sareen, executive director, ESC. ESC chairman Nalin Kohli told a news conference that the event would focus on major industry segments that require software and services such as business services, communications, entertainment and IT, finance, banking, insurance, government and public services, logistics and distribution. To a query, he said ESC hoped that the central government would come out with a separate policy for hardware, offering incentives for the growth of the sector. The total software exports from India were $22 billion during 2005-06 while the hardware exports were only $2 billion. Kohli said India had the potential to emerge as a major hardware provider if it got a level-playing field with countries like China and Taiwan.
