Hyderabad: Two international IT exhibitions began here with several IT giants from India and abroad displaying their products and services. The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), the flagship event of Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), has attracted 150 exhibitors from different countries. Ninety small and medium enterprises are taking part in IndiaSoft, an IT exhibition organised by a government body. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.R. Reddy inaugurated both events at Hitex, the international trade exhibition center in Hitec City. The DWTC, in association with the state government, is holding the event for the sixth year and is expected to attract 15,000 business visitors this year as against 10,000 in 2006. It provides a platform to IT companies to develop business relations with top corporate professionals in the private and public sectors, apart from displaying their products and services. Conferences on IT and ITES (IT Enabled Services) are also being held during the three-day event. IndiaSoft 2007 is organised by the Electronics and Software Promotion Council (ESC) to showcase India's cutting edge IT capabilities and outsourcing strengths to the global IT and business community. This is the seventh edition of IndiaSoft and is being held in Hyderabad for the first time. The two-day event is set to draw 150 outsourcing companies, software buyers and delegates from 40 countries including non-traditional markets. The chief minister presented awards to top exporters in IT, ITES and hardware sectors. With exports of 19.87 billion during last fiscal, Satyam Computer Services Ltd bagged the top exporter award in IT sector. Wipro stood second with 12.21 billion. Microsoft India, with exports of 7.2 billion, was named the top MNC exporter while Oracle India stood second with 2.29 billion. In the IT human resources development category, awards were presented to IBM, Infosys and Satyam for recruiting maximum number of students from Jawahar Knowledge Centers (JKC), a joint initiative of engineering colleges and IT industry. Reddy said the JKCs, launched two years ago, had considerably enhanced the employability of engineering graduates. A survey done earlier showed that only eight percent of 60,000-70,000 graduates passing out every year were getting jobs. "Through JKCs the percentage has now improved to 22 percent but we want to increase it further to 60-70 percent," said Reddy. The chief minister promised to provide the IT industry necessary infrastructure. He promised that the government would build more electricity generating stations to make Andhra Pradesh an electricity surplus state by June 2008.
