Himachal governor for developing scientific temper among children

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau Tuesday stressed the need for developing scientific temper among school children so they could become better citizens and think and act in a more rational and scientific manner. "There is a need for developing scientific temper among the school children so that they could be better scientists, better citizens and capable of governing their personal thoughts and actions in a scientific manner," Rau said. Inaugurating the 35th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children-2008 at Solan town, 55 km from here, she said scientific temper would generate a deep interest in young minds to make an effort to understand every activity they are engaged in. "It is the need of the hour to exhibit the ideas of scientific education system in order to develop the potential of individuals and communities so that sustainable development through scientific education could be achieved," she added. Three hundred students from 23 states and two union territories are participating in the six-day event, organised by the state government and the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The theme for the exhibition is science and technology and planet earth. State Education Minister I.D. Dhiman said "the exhibition is a first of its kind in the hill state and it would help children in the state to compete at national and international level".
