Hike in salary higher in India than Europe

By SiliconIndia,Sunday, 06 December 2009, 18:18 Hrs
Bangalore: Is Indian software industry fast losing its low-cost destination advantage? So it may seem. According to the 2009 EE Times Global Salary and Opinion Survey, Engineers' salaries in India and China have risen at a pace faster than that in Japan, North America, and some of their European counterparts.

Almost 40 percent of the respondents in India have seen their salaries grow much or slightly higher than what they were five years ago, while only 34 percent of respondents in Europe and 25 percent of that in North America reported a hike during the same time.
Hike in salary higher in India than Europe

The study says that competition for engineering talent in India and its emerging rival China has got tougher in the last ten years as hardware and software companies have accelerated the transfer of manufacturing and design operations from Western locations to lower-cost parts of the globe. This growing competition, often makes companies offer attractive incentives to hire experienced engineers, only to lose them to rivals after a couple of years.

However, though IT employees in both China and India have seen better raises over the last few years than their counterparts in the developed world, majority of the techies in the two countries still earn considerably less than their counterparts elsewhere, the study adds.

1: India has more Growth rate, more inflation and more interest rate so it is very natural to have higher hikes otherwise eventually salaries will get decreased over years when comparing purchasing capacity as it happened in last two years due to recession. Try to see the complete picture by seeing all data.

2: I am not understanding from where this scenerio comes out because from the research data of indian IT companies there is a lot of burden of market crises on the mostly IT employes. they are forcefully working on the low salery packages.
If concerned facts are true then there is much more differences between the Indian market and Other developed market as: America, Japan, Europe.

3: Interesting read ... However one doubt which pops up to my mind is how can we ever compare the % hike in India to the countries abroad.

Eg: 40 % of 4Lakhs is always smaller that
10% of 40Lakhs

4: There are some confusion in Data.
No comparision on working style, living standard, facility , awareness, etc.
We are so behind. . ..salary is not only the criteria. . . .

5: We can not compare indian IT professionals salary with europeans.
The basic difference is that european countries are software/IT users while indians are service provider only.
And which engineering talent you are talking about? If there was talent then there should be at least one world famous software product developed by indians.
So stop salray comparison.

8: guys it is completely foolish ..

after roaming so many countries what i felt , for an IT engg India is the worst palace .
as an IT Engg , being in a devloped country have 2 advantage

Saving : and IT engg in these country earn minimum 5 times having the same profile in India . but expenditure wise not too expensive . all dialy need grocery , clothes just 1.5 times or 2 times of india .. even u maintain a good appt and car and go for clubs in weekends all will get covered in double of indian salary ... means 3 times of india salary u are saving at least

Life style : much diffrence in life style ....

Comapnies are making their profit offshoring the work , IT is growing bcoz of this no doubt about it , but you can not say this india is getting better incerement or something .

even what i noticed English people or not much work oriented .. they come late in office and leave early hardly complete 7 hours .. while in india opposite of it ...
much working hrs , less salary , no life style , no club partying ..... even u work better than English ...

This is personal opinion .. i am not trying to offened someone ..

9: guys .........although there may be some grammatical mistakes in the extract above.......understand the gist.....
I guess, it is correct..........despite recession many of experienced engineers in IT firms got good increment, also no measurable effect on their onsite deputation ......
it is true in India , the rise in the salary of IT engineers is very high, the growth rate should be high as compared to the european counterparts and North american too.....only thing is to be analysed PRACTICALLY..........guys be practical and accept what is truth...........
