Hero Honda bike sales up by 13.3% in Sept

MUMBAI: Hero Honda Motors Ltd, India's largest motorcycle maker, announced Tuesday its September sales jumped 13.3 percent on the year to 133,992 bikes. The company's motorcycle sales saw a jump to 1,425,301 in the year ended in March. Hero Honda had a 49 percent share of new bike sales in the past year in India, the world's largest motorbike market after China. It sold 118,286 bikes in the same month last year. In the six months to September this year, the company sold 829,297 bikes compared with 636,830 a year ago, according to news agencies report. The company, in which Japan's Honda Motor Co and India's Munjal family each own 26 percent, expects to sell 1.8 million bikes during 2002/03. Hero Honda's shares were down 4.2 percent at 373 rupees on the Bombay Stock Exchange, whose main index was down one percent.
