Ranchi: City-based Heavy Engineering (HEC) is all set to win an expansion contract worth 7.7 billion ($189 million) from Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), said a top official. "HEC was the lowest bidder for expansion of RSP. The bid was opened Friday and we have sent our officials to complete the formalities to get the work order. The other companies which were pitted against HEC were Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and McNally Bharat Engineering Co (MBE)," said Abhya Kanth, company secretary of HEC. He said: "We had executed a similar raw material handling plant at RSP which has been performing satisfactorily since 1996." The project is to be completed in a period of 30 months from the date of the award of the order. This work broadly comprises of design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the complete coal handling plant from concept to commissioning. Earlier this month, HEC bagged another contract worth 5 billion from Bhilai Steel Plant. "At present we have orders of more than 22 billion. Our aim is to complete the works on time," said Kanth.
