CHANDIGARH: Like other states, Haryana too will open up its power sector to private investors for setting up renewable energy power projects. Haryana State Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) chairman, Manik Sonwane said Thursday that the government was considering a new renewable power policy to provide incentives to independent power producers. He said efforts were on to tap the power potential of 900 MW power generation through biomass, 45 MW through small hydro, 17 MW through municipal solid waste and 100 MW through cogeneration in the sugar mills of the state. At present, small hydro projects of 20 MW capacity, biomass power project of 10 MW capacity and cogeneration power project of 6 MW capacity involving an investment of about 20 billion are at various stages of implementation. Sonwane said HAREDA had earmarked 97.9 million to popularise its solar-based schemes and programmes.
