CHANDIGARH: In its bid to attract IT companies, Haryana is promising them a slew of sops including preference in land allotment at industrial estates and uninterrupted power supply. A Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) spokesman Monday said the government would give IT preferential treatment in allotments at industrial estates and also provide continuous, uninterrupted power, exempting IT companies from scheduled electricity cuts. He said captive power generation sets installed by the IT industry would be eligible for total exemption from payment of electricity duty without any time limit. Detailing incentives being given to industrial units, the spokesman said these included a rebate equivalent to 20 percent of the land cost if the plant starts commercial production within three years of offer of possession of the plot allotted. Most new industrial units would be exempted from payment of electricity duty for a period of five years throughout the state, he added. A customised package of incentives would also be provided to prestigious projects with an investment of 3 billion and above. He said in the past three years, as many as 21 multinational companies had set up units in Gurgaon and the adjoining region neighbouring New Delhi, bringing in an investment of 167.7 billion besides providing direct employment to about 5,000 people. The spokesman said to provide tourism a fillip HSIDC was setting up a premium leisure zone at a vantage location in Gurgaon. The zone would have floodlit tennis courts, air-conditioned squash courts, a basketball arena, golf villas, a lagoon-style swimming pool, a gym and a spa.
