Hyderabad: HP India will shortly start manufacturing its latest range of notebooks at its second facility in Uttarakhand. "Currently we manufacture desktops in India at our plant in Bangalore and with the new facility in place; we are evaluating the possibility of making notebooks," said P Krishnakumar, Country Category manager. HP had stated last year that it would invest Rs100 crore for its second manufacturing facility at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. The planet will soon have an initial capacity of 3,00,000 computers per month and it is expected to generate 1,000 jobs directly and indirectly. Addressing a press meet, he said the company would launch a series of new products in India next week. Krishnakumar said, "We will be introducing HP Pavilion A and M series notebooks, pocket media drive and Compaq Presario SR series in the market. This will help increase PC penetration in India, which is currently about 17 percent." He added that the new products arrive with high-end technology and new features and was looking at increasing their dealer outlets from 1,500 to 2,000 by the end of this year. IDC estimate shows that with 19.5 percent market share, Compaq is the largest selling notebook PC in India. "HP also leads the total branded workstation space in the country where it enjoys 48 percent market share," Krishnakumar said.
