HP rolls out $750 M global SMB initiative in India

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by a 21 per cent rise in the sales of its products for small and medium businesses (SMB) in the fourth quarter ended October 2003 in India, IT company Hewlett Packard on Wednesday rolled out its $750 million global initiative for SMB in the country. The initiaitive -- Smart Office-- lays out a roadmap or vision for how SMBs can productively use IT, HP India vice-president, personal systems group Ravi Swaminthan told reporters. "Together with our partners, we are delivering a more comprehensive set of products, infrastructure and business solutions for SMBs," he said. The $750 million global Smart Office initiative rides on the company's global success in the SMB market with sales touching $21 billion. The initiative assumes significance as HP India's one third revenue comes from the SMB segment, and in 2002-03 it generated $175 million from SMB segment. Sameer Dhingra, country manager, SMB, HP India, said the spending by the SMB sector on IT is expected to grow at a CAGR of 24 per cent in the next three year and HP should be in a position to capitalise on this. "The industry is growing at 15-20 per cent, we should be able grow over that for our SMB business", he said. According to IDC Q4 2003 data, HP leads as the number one overall global SMB hardware vendor in PCs, servers and printers. In India, HP is the leading technology vendor for SMBs with a 8.2 per cent market-share for total PCs and holds 92.7 per cent inkjet printers and 73.1 per cent in mono laser jet printers in the SMB space. HP's SMB business solutions focus on verticals like CRM, manufacturing, sales force automation, hospitality, education and healthcare. Under the initiaitive, HP has introduced -- HP Smart Finance -- which offers a suite of lifecycle financial programmes tailered to SMB needs, making it easier for them to acquire, manage and retire their IT solutions. In Asia Pacific, HP has extended the capabilities and is now offering leasing structure to SMBs in India.
