HP leads notebook market in India: IDC

BANGALORE: An IDC report has identified HP India as the leader in both unit and value shipments with a share of more than 31.7%. HP has increased its unit shipment lead over its nearest competitor by over 4% in the quarter, the report said. In the consumer desktop category HP leads by a margin of 3 points from its nearest competitor at 7.4%. According to international Data Corporation (IDC) Quarter 1, 2003 report, HP leads the overall desktop market in value shipments with a market share of 10.6%. In the 'Top Vendor Temperature' readings by IDC, HP PCs feature as 'Hot' among all MNC vendors. The HP Compaq Presario Home PC is rated to continue its winning performance into the coming quarters. In the Notebook market, HP's shipments to the government and small office sectors increased 260% and 190% respectively. HP's commercial desktop shipments registered strong double-digit growth through significant wins in the government, education and large business segment in this quarter. "Our continued dominance in the PC market is a reflection of our business strategy which is clearly focused on delivering on customer needs and requirements," said Ravi Swaminathan, Vice-President, Personal Systems Group, HP India Pvt. Ltd.. "We are geared to both drive growth and excel in our own performance in the desktop and notebook markets, bolstered by a powerful product line, value solutions and a committed partner network", he added.
