HP and Katha organize a Creative Writing Workshop
Bangalore: In order to expose children to the exciting world of reading and writing and groom them from an early age, Hewlett Packard's Imaging and Printing Group (HP-IPG) along with Katha, an NGO that brings children living in poverty into reading and quality reading and Prasoon Joshi,a noted Indian Screenwriter and creative lyricist came together to host the first creative short story writing workshop in Bangalore under HP- IPG's program called "Write&Read". The workshop targeted children within the age group of nine to fifteen. The workshop included a session with Prasoon Joshi, the creative mentor for HP-IPG's Write&Read proposal. Prasoon introduced the participants to the finer aspects of the art of story-telling. He said, "Many people nowadays write blogs and diaries because it makes them happy to be writing and speak their heart out. And if what you write is interesting and makes sense to you, it is good and is creative." Geeta Dharmarajan , Founder and Executive Director of Katha also conducted a session on the key elements of story writing. Varadarajan Krishnan, General Manager of Marketing, Imaging and Printing Group was also present at the event to talk about the key drivers of writing and reading habits of children in India. On being asked about the initiave of a corporate side (Hewlett Packard) and a creative section (Katha and Prasoon Joshi) coming together, he said,"When more and more children cultivate the habit of writing, there will be more to share with people. And in order to meet the demand of printers, we are launching an e-printer. The habit of writing can be cultivated and groomed with extra help and that is where Prasoon joshi and Katha comes in." The workshop was organized at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan, in Bangalore from August 25-27, 2011 and on August 26 at the St Joseph's Indian High School.
