HYDERABAD: Hitachi Data Systems, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi providing data storage solutions, plans to have a direct presence in India by May this year, reports Economic Times. The company, which only has a representative office now, will be setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary in India in order to focus on increasing its presence in the modular storage segment, build strong network and gain marketshare in the domestic market. Having gained more than 75% marketshare in the enterprise storage segment with its partners HP and Sun Microsystems, HDS has identified four areas of growth that include modular storage, storage software, network attached storage and global solution services. Speaking to ET, HDS’ country manager P P Subramanian said the Indian operations would be transformed into a wholly-owned subsidiary of HDS by May this year and the headcount will be doubled to 18 professionals. Subramanian said the modular market in India is achieving maturity and the company is targeting modular storage to contribute close to 50% of the total India revenues by the end of 2006. However, he did not want to divulge the revenue from Indian operations. Currently, about 60% of HDS’ revenues in India come from high-end enterprise storage solutions, while 20% are earned from modular and another 20% from software and solutions. The major revenue contributors are banking, telecom and government verticals. The Indian storage market also mirrors the global trend in moving towards modular storage solutions due to its inherent advantages.
