HCL outbids IBM, grabs U.S. firm's deal
By   siliconindia news bureau
Tuesday,30 June 2009, 00:11 hrs
New Delhi: HCL has signed a five-year IT applications support and infrastructure management deal with U.S. based flavored beverages firm Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS). HCL won the deal competing against the top multinational IT firms including IBM, having no other Indian IT firm in the race. DPS is an existing client of the Indian IT firm.

According to Shami Khorana, HCL America President, the DPS deal is the fourth largest outsourcing contract grabbed by the IT firm in the U.S. this year, while the other three were, a $350-million contract from The Reader's Digest Association, a $100-million deal from Xerox and another with Viacom for an undisclosed amount.

The Indian IT firm will provide services such as end-user computing, integrated service desk, network management and managed print services, for which HCL had tied up with Xerox last year. DPS will also become HCL's anchor service desk customer at the IT firm's Raleigh delivery facility in the U.S.

Consumer packaged goods (CPG) and retail contribute about 6.5- 7 percent to HCL's revenues.

"This will be a large growth vertical for us going forward.," said Khorana.

1: You people just heard about Imaginative Nilekani and the “Unique Identity Authority of India” ...can anyone from 'HCL' imagine also being given such respect...

And this is all b'coz of Infy and the way it's run...

Do we need any discussion on comparing Infy with HCL.

2:Being ex HCL employee - Appreciate HCL on winning great deal against top Global IT company IBM. HCL needs to make sure they deliver on commitments. That is the big challenge where HCL faces problem as HCL is Sales driven Organization as compare to INFY / TCS which are operation driven organizations. Also, HCL needs to get away with their internal politics which works against them to retain the talent. HCL losses 40% of their work force on yearly basis in many pockets of Application technology areas. As HCL grows it will have many losses to worry about than the wins.....They can't provide focus / attention to the existing customers. Their CXO level folks come when the deal is on the table they will not be seen once the deal is won. As I said It is a sales driven organizations...I would define HCL as a very fragile organization just like another Satyam....They will never be listed on Nasdaq / US stock exchange becasue of the obvious reason. Hey, Don't take me wrong - It is a great organizattion to know for their employee last first initiative. Please don't take me wrong as Babejanee...He is talking from his

HCL can never work like them, we suck. Our work culture is horrible ,no work ethics nothing.

41: I am agree with the fact that there is lot of politics going inside the HCL.This can be seen in many projects.I have seen that personally and also seen many victim of that. But since HCL is quite a big company with many employees working in it..these things are unnoticed..but remember this is the main reason for high attrition rate in HCL..there are very few people who stay here for long..Higher Management need to look into it..
