NEW DELHI: IT company HCL Technologies is expecting a minimum five per cent additional profitability in terms of margin through Intellectual Property Rights in 2005-06, company chairman Shiv Nadar said. "We believe that in 2005-06, at least five per cent additional profitability in terms of margin should accrue to us through IPRs in which we have invested so far and which we would enhance during the course of this year", Nadar told analysts in a conference call. Pointing out that the company had started making some small investments in IPR development, he said its entire infrastructure business is centred around the IPRs the company has built, he said. On the ongoing initiatives around product engineering, he said HCLT is designing and developing regulatory solutions for a BFSI client in UK which would support the bank to comply with revised requirements of international accounting standards. The company has also commenced a project in the area of credit risk management for an existing bank client. "We will need to reinvent the corporation significantly. HCLT has its origin in a strong product engineering base and we will have to soon explore ways and means of building a product IPR-led business and reduce dependence on T&M contracts with alternate revenue streams that enable us to leverage certain intellectual assets that are uniquely HCL Technologies and cannot easily be replicated", Nadar said.
