Mumbai: Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) on Wednesday said the Paris-based hospitality industry giant Accor Hotels will operate its first two hotels at a private hill resort being developed near Pune. HCC is developing the resort over 15,000 acres at Lavasa in the Mose Valley near Pune, 265 km southeast of Mumbai at an investment of $5.55 billion. The group has entered into a tie-up with Accor for the development of first two hotels. "Our vision is to build Lavasa with world-class tourism infrastructure. Choosing the right operator for this project is extremely important and we are delighted to invite Accor to manage the hotel projects," HCC chairman Ajit Gulabchand said. "At Accor, we too are committed to developing India's economic infrastructure by developing our hotels across all price segments and destinations," added David Baffsky, Accor's chairman and chief executive for the Asia-Pacific region. Accor, which has 4,000 hotels in 90 countries, will run the first hotel on a 12-acre waterfront site with 250 rooms under the Novotel Resort brand, while the second project will be an 80-room Mercure Spa on a seven-acre site. The resort is situated 3,000 feet above sea level, cradling a 20 sq km man-made lake. It is being billed as India's first private hill resort with apartments, hotels, multiplexes, malls, research institutes and sports facilities. The hill station will be the first township after the government of Maharashtra framed a special regulation for the development of resorts, holiday homes and hill stations in November 1996.
