Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Thursday called for state-specific funding programmes and special packages for the state's ailing industries, including the diamond processing sector. Modi made the observations during a meeting with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor D. Subbarao here while expectations were high over another stimulus package from the central government. "Gujarat has maintained pace of development and has focused specially on inclusive growth. The RBI ought to plan meticulously for an integrated credit policy that will help states that have a heavy commitment towards social sector investments," he said. Requesting the central bank to take "bold initiatives", Modi said the RBI should declare a special credit package for Gujarat's diamond processing, textile and small-scale sectors, which have been adversely impacted by the global meltdown.
