SAN MATEO: Chandna, formerly a senior executive with Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP), will focus on software and systems investment opportunities from Greylock's Bay Area offices. Chandna's appointment highlights Greylock's ongoing commitment to global early-stage investment opportunities in enterprise software and communications sectors, and continues the firm's 38-year heritage of helping to build world-class enterprises. "We are very excited about the unique vision and perspective Asheem brings to Greylock," said Aneel Bhusri, managing partner of Greylock. "His strong company-building experience within infrastructure and security markets, global network of contacts and proven ability to work with start-up management teams make him a strong addition to the Greylock team." Greylock, with offices in the Boston area and San Mateo, has invested in such companies as Ascend Communications, Checkfree, DoubleClick, Internet Security Systems, Legato, Continental Cable, Phone.com (now OpenWave), Millenium Pharmaceuticals, Sungard, Tellabs, Trilogy and Red Hat. Over the past 38 years Greylock has provided equity capital and support to more than 250 developing companies. Of these companies, over 120 have become publicly held, while over 80 others have merged successfully with other leading companies. "I am very pleased to join Greylock," said Asheem Chandna. "I look forward to working with the rest of the Greylock partners to further extend our industry leadership in teaming with world-class entrepreneurs to create and build market-leading companies." Prior to Greylock, Chandna was vice-president of business development and product management with Check Point Software Technologies, the worldwide leader in Internet security infrastructure (firewalls/VPNs). During his six year tenure, Check Point experienced exceptional growth and profitability - annual revenue grew almost twenty-fold to over $528 million and company net margin increased to over 60% after tax, making Check Point one of the world's fastest growing and most profitable companies. Chandna founded the business development and product management organizations, led corporate marketing during high growth years and was responsible at an executive-level for leading Check Point's product/business strategy, product management and industry partnerships. Chandna is also credited with creating, growing and leading Check Point's OPSEC Alliance into the largest and most successful security partner program in the IT industry.
