Govt to start Rs 100-crore 'Vidya Vahini' IT Project

BANGALORE: Union Urban Minister Ananth Kumar said Monday that the government would soon start a Rs 100-crore "Vidya Vahini" project to focus on Information technology. Speaking at the Bangalore IT.com 2002, he said this project would consist of 20 schools chosen from nine districts in the country and Belgaum district in Karnataka has been chosen for the project. Also, the 'Jnana Vahini' programme would be taken up in a few universities with a focus on Information Technology, he said. Kumar said the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) had decided to set up a centre in Gulbarga.
