New Delhi: The government today asked SEZs to adopt environment friendly approach, including use of solar power, a move that will go a long way in making the country's export oriented enclaves green. "At least 10 per cent of the installed load should be solar powered during the first year of operation. Over a period, the installed load must be extended by at least 5 per cent annually until a target of 50 per cent is achieved," said a Commerce Ministry communication to Development Commissioners of SEZs. All individual buildings coming within the SEZ should also follow all the applicable green guidelines which can be implemented in such buildings, it added. The ministry said that the entire organic waste generated within SEZ should be used for power generation or vermi-composting.
