Bangalore: Google is working on a wireless home entertainment system, which will be the first one to use its ever successful Android Operating System.

If the reports are true, it will be the first device to be manufactured under Google brand, reported WSJ.

The device is primarily targeted in music streaming but it would possibly stream other types of media too.

This will mark Google’s attempt in making the Android, a hub for devices. Company in last year had announced its “Project Tungsten”, for developing sort of a “hub” for its Android@Home technology which allows the android devices to communicate each other.

According to Eric Holland, vice president of electrical engineering at Lighting Science, Google’s Android@Home will use a new version of wireless network developed by Google. The network is similar to that used by ZigBee, a low-power wireless network used for short-range home automation, but with enough bandwidth to transmit video.

The new device will mark a strategic shift in Google’s competition with Apple, which was successful in its software-hardware combinations.
