Groupon would have helped its new owner expand
Seeing a surging demand for coupons over the web, Google thought, its bet was to buy Groupon , a company which gave the best deals for consumers from dinner cruises to dental exams. It was the biggest deal in Google's history as it had striked a $6 billion purchase price for the deal-of-the-day website. By this deal, Groupon would have helped its new owner expand in the $133 billion U.S. local-ad market and lessen its reliance on Internet-search advertising. The proposed acquisition fell through amid hesitation by Groupon's founders.
