Mountain View: Google has informed users of its Gmail service that it has settled a class action law suit against Buzz, a social networking service that they launched within Gmail in February of this year. The settlement of the lawsuit won't result in any monetary compensation for Gmail users. Instead, Google is putting $8.5 million into an independent fund that it says will be used to support organizations promoting education about privacy on the Web. Google said, "We will also do more to educate people about privacy controls specific to Buzz. The more people know about privacy online, the better their online experience will be." "We are satisfied with the agreement and are glad to move forward. Google said in a statement. "We have always been committed to offering users transparency and choice in Buzz and all our products, and will continue to work together with users to provide the best experience possible," said the Internet giant. Anyone who wants to object to the settlement must do so with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose before January 10.
