Bangalore: Google, the internet giant is extending its knowledge database through the introduction of e-Book. It is all set to buy eBook Technologies, a company that specializes in hardware and content distribution for electronic readers. The details of the deal are not disclosed. A month ago Google had launched its Google eBookstore where users can browse and search through more than three million titles. eBook will design and develop a technology that will create, distribute and control the content on tablets and other portable readable devices. With this eBook also supports a platform which includes an Online Bookshelf (which carries user's personal content), an internet based content sales and delivery system and a content conversion publication tool. However, with respect to India, eBooks have not been able to make an impact on the Indian audience. India been the biggest and the most promising market for tablets and iPhones, seldom has fans for e-books. Although e-books now carry popular fiction and non-fiction titles over the internet, Indians have not stopped buying hardcover editions of their favorite authors. Many publishing houses are producing e-books in nearly 24 languages, but still the gadget is not gaining any attention from Indians. Experts are of the opinion that the knowledge about the gadget is very limited and hence could be causing the lack of interest. They said that to popularize the use of the digital gadget, people need to be taught about the use of e-books and their utilities.
