Google behind Baidu in search results?
Bangalore: Google's search engine has become the go-to place for all the queries we have today. And so we expect Google's search results to have the highest count. But the Chinese search engine Baidu's Chairman and Chief Executive Robin Li claims that Google's Chinese counterpart serves more search requests than any other search engine-including Google. Speaking in the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Li expressed his happiness on Google pulling out its services from China and termed it as a 'gift' given by Google. "I would have given him advice to spend six months a year in China. He did not take my advice and he handed me a gift," said Li. He added that there are no plans however to push Baidu in the U.S. market currently. Baidu has some U.S. presence on the NASDAQ market. The company's shares have climbed from $40 at the beginning of the year to over $100. By Li's estimates, 99 percent market share of the 420 million Chinese internet users are served by Baidu's search results. This also includes the mobile-phone market. To this Li said, "I think China is a very difficult market for cell phones. First, China is a large and growing market. Market conditions change every day. If you're not close to that market, it's very difficult to keep up with market demands."
