Google Instant filters 'inappropriate' words

By SiliconIndia,Wednesday, 08 September 2010, 20:02 Hrs
Bangalore: Google has revealed that its latest search enhancement, Google Instant, turned its back to predicting results for certain words and phrases which the company considers to be related to "violence, hate, or pornography."

The launch of Google Instant was announced by Google CEO, Eric Schmidt at the IFA show in Berlin.
Google Instant filters 'inappropriate' words

The special feature of Google Instant is that it displays the results as soon as users begin to type in their requests.

With Instant Search, Google promises faster search results that start showing up as you type. The search button is made redundant because what you need has already appeared on the page by the time you finish typing.

Google has also improved its prediction engine .The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.

The basic principle behind Instant Search is the insight that that people type slowly, but read quickly. Google explains that on average, between each keystroke, there is a rather long gap of 300 milliseconds. This time is long enough for its servers to be able to complete a search query and throw the results up within 30 milliseconds. Interestingly, 30 milliseconds is almost the same time it takes for the average user to look at another part of the page. All this translates to the possibility of a user being able to comfortably track the changing search results as he types.

Google Instant is being already used in U.S., UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia. It is also reported that a mobile version of Instant is in the making as well and will release by the fall. However, plans of its release in India have still not been revealed.
