Lucknow: Graduating students of the Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) were Sunday asked to use the skills and traits they had learnt not only in the corporate world, but also to "manage the problems of the planet earth".
"Don't forget to practice sustainable measures for the environment and the earth. No matter where you work, you should always endeavor to tackle the ill-effects of climate change that concern all of us," said M. Damodaran, former chairman Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the chief guest at the institute's 24th convocation.
"Always remember to give priority to planet than profit. In fact, you should work first for people and planet and thereafter should look for the profit. I am not saying you should not work for money. I want to convey that you should not allow the greed of money to conquer you. I would say it is wrongly quoted that money is root to all evils, instead it should be love of money is root to all evils," he added.
Jamshed J. Irani, director of Tata Sons, also called upon the graduating students to address problems related to climate change and make the world a better place to live.
"Tremendous responsibility rests on your shoulders. You are leaders of tomorrow, several challenges lie ahead of you. While some of them are associated with the corporate world, financial sectors, others may come in form of problems related to climate change. So, get ready for that also,'' he added.
IIM-L director Devi Singh said the placement scenario this year came back to its original rigour and vigour. "A proactive approach on the process saw tremendous response from a new set of employers, who have recruited in large numbers."
IIM-L Friday announced to have completed its final placements with a total of 370 job offers been made for the batch of 315 students - the largest ever graduating batch to be placed across all IIMs, till date.
