Fuji launches new digital camera

New Delhi: Fuji film Corporation has launched a new digital camera expecting to sell 100,000 cameras in 2007-08. Around 10 percent of its total revenue comes from the digital camera segment. "Digital cameras are going to be see major demand, driven by digital convergence. The demand is likely to hit 700,000 units this financial year and the market is growing by 50 percent year-on-year. We hope to corner 10-15 percent of the market by 2010," said Kentaro Shiota, GM, Fujifilm Corp India. The digital cameras launched includes an entry model, priced at Rs 9000, mid-level models priced between Rs 10000 and Rs 15000 and semi-professional models available between Rs 20000 to Rs 30000. The company expects half of the sales to be from the entry-level models, 30 percent from mid-range and the rest from the high end. “We have plans to enhance our range and will launch a new line before the end of the current financial year,” said Sandeep Sharan, head - sales and marketing, Fujifilm Corp India. Initially it plans to focus on New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore, with 10-15 tier II cities being the targets for launch at a later stage. The market leader in the digital camera segment domestically is Kodak and Canon. The highly fragmented market also has other players such as Sony, Samsung, Casio, Nikon, Olympus and Panasonic.
