KOLKATA: French mobile maker Sagem is the latest entrant in the crowded cellular handset market in India, but the company says it will offer high-end technology for cheap prices. The $3 billion Sagem SA Group is offering in India high camera quality phones with 1.2 m pixels, high quality colour screens with 250,000 colours, video downloads and streaming. The company also promises to offer entry-level phones. The products are sold with a two-year warranty and a one-year insurance against theft. "We offer more features at a lower price. We give more value for money. That is our USP," said Sagem spokesman Ankit Arora. Sagem SA, which also makes its money from the defence and security equipment business, is the world's top company in helicopter controls and space optics and Europe's number one company in optronic systems and inertial navigation. Sagem's MyX Series, which will have basic phones as well as high-end colour, GPRS enabled camera/video-recording phones, ranges from 3,299 to 15,299. "All our phones are imported from France," Arora said. One of Sagem's high-end phones is equipped with video/voice recording, playback, hi-fi ring tones and Java-enabled gaming and download options. "All our basic models come with polyphonic/hi-fi ring tones, speaker phones, a hands-free kit etc, which is not offered by other companies in this segment," Arora said. Cenzer Industries, part of the Cenzer group engaged in manufacturing, importing, marketing and exporting of watches, consumer goods and telephones, has been appointed Sagem's national distributor in India.
