Foreign Aid Amounts to Just 1.6 Pct of India's Total Health Spend

There are certain countries in Western and Southern Africa and Asia where the global health funds given to governments are estimated to more than half of total government health expenditure. The report cautioned against the dependence of these health systems on DAH bringing forth the decreasing level of DAH for governments from 2008 to 2010.

Over the years the funds for the global health development have increasingly flown to NGOs in many countries. In 1995 the governments mainly distributed DAH, while NGOs received approximately $30 million. It accounts to 2.4 percent of the total global health funds assigned to be transferred either to governments or NGOs. In 2010 the DAH for NGOs is estimated to a total of 65.3 percent, with DAH funding for that year for NGOS amounting to over $7.8 billion, a $3.7 billion more than DAH given out to governments in the same year.

The growth of a country can be defined by the quality and wide availability of healthcare to the people. The need for funds to achieve this goal is critical, and with poverty being a concern in many countries, the government and the NGOs have to work together to make healthcare available to all strata of the society.
