Flextronics to set up Rs 450-cr facility

CHENNAI: The worldÂ’s biggest contract electronic manufacturer Flextronics will set up a second manufacturing facility in Chennai. Estimated to cost about 450 crores, the company plans to manufacture cellular phones and set-top boxes and later on look at electronic automotive parts and medical equipment and laser printers too, according to the sources. Headquartered in Singapore, Flextronics is an electronic manufacturing services provider and reported revenues of $15.9 billion in fiscal 2005. Flextronics took over Motorola's manufacturing facility in Bangalore and also acquired FutureSoft, a Chennai-based telecom software developer. Flextronics manufactures a range of items - cellular phones, set-top boxes and TV tuners, laser printers, automotive electronic components and medical equipment.
