BANGALORE:The Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) has commissioned Frost and Sullivan to conduct the first ever-formal study of the Indian semiconductor Industry. Titled “Indian Semiconductor Market: Consumption Assessment, Growth Areas and Development of Ecosystems,” the study will be the most comprehensive effort undertaken thus far and will put together a clear snapshot of the Industry, the ecosystem, its composition, challenges and the opportunities. Despite having about 30 percent of the chip design market, India is yet to become a destination for semiconductor manufacturing or fabrication and the report, expected to be completed in six months, will reveal the whole business of semiconductors in India in three modules like semiconductor consumption in India, design services and how will the semiconductor industry perform in India. Rajendra Khare, Chairman, ISA said “ With the commissioning of the study, we have taken yet another major step towards clearly and firmly laying the ground for a focused long term thrust which will catapult India into globally pre-eminent position in the semiconductor technology driven industry and also leading product design hub. The effort was long due and the ISA looks forward to the final report to chart the future strategy in consultation with all the stake holders involved.” Due to the absence of clear details on the semiconductor industry in India, many semiconductor majors have been unable to know about the potential of the Indian market and hence a study like this will help them a lot.
