Bangalore: Facebook commemorates the one-year anniversary of the 'Like' button. Facebook thinks the icon and the act of clicking on it has become too ubiquitous. Ever since its launch the Facebook 'Like' Button has undergone a number of changes to make it more adaptable for websites and users. Facebook first introduced the 'Like' Button on April 21, 2010 at its F8 developer's conference, along with Facebook Open Graph and instant personalization. Through the 'Like', Facebook spread its social footprint across the web. 50,000 websites installed the 'Like' button in its first week, and that number rose to 100,000 in less than a month. To celebrate the first anniversary of the button, Facebook posted an image on its official profile showing how the like Button appears to people across the world in as many as 75 different languages. "Happy 1st birthday, Like button! The success of the 'Like' button has prompted competitors such as Google, to announce a new service called +1. While a number of third-party Twitter buttons were available, Twitter launched its own tweet button in August 2010. Steering things back to the subject of Facebook 'Like' icon, they've noticed that within 26 minutes of the site posting about the one-year anniversary, 36,303 people have liked that post. Some 4,948 have written comments and a number of them demand an unlike button. The simple-looking button with a thumbs-up icon lets users show their appreciation for online content and also lets them share it with their friends on Facebook. Liking pages, brands, comments, articles, songs and videos involves a click on a mouse, a very concrete action. With over 500 million users, Facebook is the world's largest social networking service.
