Firms will spend on client gifts rather than employees

Bangalore: U.S. companies will be more prone to stiff employees - but not clients - when it comes to giving gifts this coming holiday season, as per the finding from the American Express OPEN Small Business Holiday Monitor.

"Because customer presents can be important marketing tools during this tough economic climate, more (47 percent) intend to give client gifts over employee offerings (35 percent)," the survey stated. "Concurrently, entrepreneurs' total customer-gift budgets remain steady versus last year ($455 in 2009 vs. $457 in 2008)."

No matter how much or how little a company spends, it should put a little thought into the present. Experts suggest that environmentally friendly items or items that go together like gourmet popcorn and a classic DVD are winning ideas. Workers may have to make due with commercially manufactured soap and plain old popcorn with a flick from their home collection.
