FinMin hints at rural focus in Budget

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister P Chidambaram today hinted at measures to boost farm sector, irrigation, food processing and social sectors in the forthcoming budget. At a meeting with top industrial owners, Chidambaram highlighted the need to boost the rural sector and high growth and job-creating industrial sectors like food processing, textile, pharma, petrochemicals and telecom. It is learnt; Chidambaram has laid emphasis on fulfilling the commitments made in the Common Minimum Program to give priority to social sectors like health and education, which required substantial investments both from government and private sectors.
