As much as 70 percent of the cars in India are sold in the small-car segment, which is an important segment for Ford, reports Swati Khandelwal Jain of CNBC-TV18. According to Michael Boneham, President and MD, Ford India, Figo is a game changer for them. It has surpassed other Ford models, with more than more than 25,000 sales bookings done since its launch in March. Ford Figo has found its place among the top 10 highest selling cars in India. In addition, it has also been responsible for a doubling of Ford India's half-year sales numbers. The company has increased the Chennai plant's capacity to 1,40,000 units per annum. There are other segments that are growing as well and every 12 to 18 months Ford is looking to launch a new product in India, said Boneham. Ford has an engine plant which makes petrol and diesel engines on the same assembly line. Adding to it, the company has started exporting petrol engines to Thailand.
