Pune: Making good use of the social networking services is the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML). The city body has started a page in Facebook in the new year wherein the citizens can post pictures of bus drivers who use their mobile phones while driving. The PMPML, in return, will pay the citizens a handsome reward of 1,000. The city governing body is also mulling the launch of various safety measures, including the above stated one, as a part of its road safety campaign. The PMPML had taken a similar step with respect to the erring bus drivers, three years ago. The citizens were then also asked to report if bus drivers were using their mobile phones while driving. Not only the drivers, but the conductors are also being watched by the PMPML. Citizens are also to report on conductors who harass the travellers over tendering of exact fares. The PMPML officials said that such instances will be met with immediate action taken by the depot managers. The Pune instance is one more case in point where social networks are bettering the lives of people. Their mass reach has governments adopting them to introduce novel ways of governance.
