Experts panel on IT Act to submit report in May

NEW DELHI: The Committee of Experts set up to examine deficiencies in IT Act is expected to present its report by May. "The committee is expected to submit its report by May 2005," Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said. It is re-examining the IT Act to ensure that it remains an enabler to the development of IT and has adequate measures for promoting growth of e-governance and e-commerce, Maran said. It is also working to ensure that the act remains effective for regulating cyber crime and cyber forensics as well as addresses all aspects of cyber security. The committee would also examine suggestions of Inter-Ministerial working group on Cyber Laws and Cyber Forensics, he said. The working group had made suggestions pertaining to implementation of e-governance projects, plugging the loopholes in legislation to curb cyber crimes and remove certain interpretation problems and anomalies and fill the gap in areas in the provisions for Certifying Authorities in the act.
