Epiance names Nagesh Vempaty CTO

HERNDON: Epiance Corp., a business process software provider, named Dr. Nagesh R. Vempaty as chief technology officer. In his position, Vempaty will be responsible for product architecture and the technical direction for the company's domestic and offshore product development teams. The CTO position was previously held in Epiance's India location by President, Engineering and Asia Region R. Ravi. Most recently, Vempaty was vice president of engineering at Aalayance Inc., a provider of information technology, product development and outsourcing services. Vempaty has three patents pending, more than thirty research papers published and has given numerous presentations delivered at industry conferences and universities. Epiance also appointed Sean M. Fitts and Alex Saldanha to its external Technical Advisory Board. Fitts is currently chief architect at AmberPoint Inc., a web services management company. Alex Saldanha was co-founder and CTO of Softface Inc., a spend analysis software provider that was acquired by Ariba Inc. in April 2004. Epiance has 57 customers, including SBC Communications Inc., Gannett Co. Inc., Aetna Inc., and Canon U.S.A. Inc. The company has about 125 employees, and that it planned to add a total of 10 to 12 employees by the end of the year. Epiance's software, Epiplex, enables companies to organize IT and human resources and provides a framework to link management, operational systems, and the customers they serve. In May, the company closed its first outside round, a Series B, with $7.8 million. Norwest Venture Partners led the round, joined by Outlook Ventures.
