NEW DELHI: The Indian government has cleared the setting up of two more special economic zones in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The zones will be set up at Sitapur in Rajasthan capital Jaipur and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation will promote the special economic zone at Sitapur is and the one at Moradabad by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation, the commerce ministry said Thursday. The government has also given in-principle approval for setting up a special economic zone at Boranada in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. "With the clearance of these proposals, there are now 19 such zones approved for establishment in the country," a commerce ministry statement said. The zones, being set up to emulate the success of China's export zones, are being planned by private and joint sector promoters with the assistance of state governments. In some cases, promoters are trying to rope in foreign partners. In addition to the zones, the government has approved two proposals for setting up inland container depots and container freight stations at Mumbai.
