Dubai to launch solar-powered fog-detection system

Dubai: Dubai would soon launch a solar-powered fog-detection and warning system to improve the people's safety, a top official said. The system will help in low visibility and bad weather conditions by alerting motorists to maintain safe distance between vehicles and informing them about accidents so as to avoid recurring incidents, said Dubai Police commander-in-chief Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim. The system has been invented by United Arab Emirates (UAE) engineer Saeed Al Hammadi. Al Hamadi said the idea to create the system struck his mind after there were many road accidents in the UAE caused by low visibility in foggy weather. The police chief said the system was being studied to deploy it at a lower cost to the economy.
