Dubai: Public libraries in the Emirate of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have deployed RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system for managing information, WAM news agency reported Tuesday. "The RFID technology would revolutionise how librarians do their work and how customers receive library services," said Salah Amiri, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality for the general support services sector. "The system will help us do more with fewer resources, reduce materials handling by up to 90 percent, relieve staff from some of the most tedious and repetitive tasks and provide customers with better services and a friendlier, more rewarding library experience," he said. "The new system will help in offering quality services to the public in consonance with modern standards," said Mohammed Jassim Al Eraidi, director of Dubai Public Libraries department. The RFID project was implemented by the Arabian Advanced System company in collaboration with 3M International and would also be implemented in the new libraries that are coming up in Dubai.
