KOCHI: A team of Dubai Internet City officials from United Arab Emirates (UAE) arrived here Sunday to consider this commercial capital of Kerala for a proposed Internet city project. The team led by Dubai Internet City director Fareed Abdul Rahman went around a 500-acre plot of land near the international airport. Reports indicate the project to be called Smart City would be built on the lines of Dubai Internet City in Dubai, UAE, that is considered a huge success in terms of attracting overseas investment. The team preferred to keep away from the media. It is expected to take a close look Monday at the upcoming public sector Info Park and a 1,000-acre plot adjacent to it that the state has offered for the Smart City project. The four-member team that includes a Keralite is expected to hold discussions with state officials and Industries and IT Minister P.K. Kunjalikutty. "Two of the team members would be in Kerala for another four days while two would return Tuesday," said a state official. The state is hopeful that Kochi has a good chance of getting the project because of good international connectivity as the landing point of three international submarine cables. The Dubai Internet City team is also considering Chennai and Hyderabad as the location for the project.
