DoCoMo users to pay up to 2k per month to avail 3G

New Delhi: Both pre-paid and post-paid customers of Tata DoCoMo will have to pay from 350 to 2,000 per month to avail high-end services on their mobile phones, said the telco on Tuesday. Tata DoCoMo launched third generation (3G) mobile services such as ultra-fast internet, video conferencing and mobile TV on cellphones and in a bid to address the data requirements of its customers; it unleashed a slew of packages. Video calls are priced at about 3 per minute, while users have to pay 99 per month for mobile TV for 50 channels. Depending on the data plan the customer opts for, voice calls will charge from 40 paise to 66 paise per minute. Compared to BSNL and MTNL, Tata DoCoMo's tariffs are priced significantly higher. BSNL charges 1/minute for video calls on many post-paid plans, while voice calls are priced at a flat 49 paise per minute. The telco would offer 3G services to key cities across Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP (West), Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra and wanting to upgrade from 2G to 3G, possessing 3G handsets or planning to buy 3G handsets will be the target audience, said the company. Each of the 3G plans would have local, STD and roaming minutes bundled with data usage varying from 150MB to 2GB depending on the plan chosen and it will be valid for one month. The company announced plans starting from 1,000 to Rs 2,000 a month on pre-paid and post-paid basis giving space of 5GB to 15 GB for data usage on tablets and laptops.
