Demand for LCD panel to be good in 2011
Bangalore: It is expected that the demand for TFT-LCD panel makers will be good in 2011 and the adjustment in the inventory levels and the lowering of utilization rates is going to benefit the panel makers, reports Rebecca Kuo of Digitimes. The television segment is reported to grow at the rate of 60 to 70 percent. Market players like Sony, LG Electronics, Samsung and Onida see this as an opportunity for their growth. The market size for colour television in India stands at 13.5 million units. The flat panel TV category is expected to sell 3 million units this year which is exactly double compared to the sales recorded in 2009. Industry players feel that internet-based technology will drive growth further in the near future. According to observers at Morgan Stanley, system-end demand in 2011 will grow by 20 percent on year, while overall panel production capacity will only grow by 14 percent, and under the circumstances, panel demand will see strong growth in 2011. "The existing small base of this category will propel growth for next 2-3 years in addition to increasing disposable income. Further, prices on the upper end might not see significant correction as new technologies are being introduced in the LED and LCD segment every year," said Rohit Pandit, Business Head of home entertainment of LG Electronics, India.
