US-based auto component company Delphi is planning to make India one of its global R&D hub and increase total head count to 800 by 2008. "We are expanding our work here at the Bangalore technology centre and bringing in new work like application engineering and validation," says Prashant Saha, Delphi Automotive Systems India Vice President, Sales & Marketing. The company is increasing head count in India. Initially from about 300 people we have increased our workforce to 500 in our technology centre in Bangalore. Now now it is looking forward to add another 300 odd staff. "Increasingly we will be utilising the India centre as an R&D hub for both domestic and international requirements, with our five R&D centres in the Asia Pacific region," he said. The company has already invested about $10 million in the last 2-3 years on the R&D centre to increase production capacity at its Bangalore auto component plant which caters to both the domestic and export customers. Company sources say that the huge investment would increase Delphi India’s capacity by 100% by 2008.
