MOHALI: Dell Inc., the world's largest personal computer maker will hire 1,500 people at its third call center in India in the next 12 months, Chairman Michael Dell said Monday. "We expect to have 1,500 employees when it grows to full capacity in a year," Dell said in Mohali, where the third call center is located. The company has already hired 300 workers in Mohali. "We have hired 300 people and my feeling is that we will get together 1500 people very quickly to fill this Dell customer contact center this year. Chandigarh should be able to support the talent we are looking for," he added. India has been called the "back-office" of the world, with some 2000 foreign firms outsourcing their operations to the country to take advantage of its vast pool of educated and less expensive English-speaking workforce. Analysts have warned, however, that India may lose its strong grip on the multi-billion dollar outsourcing industry if it does not brush up on its spoken English. Dell brushed aside the fuss about foreign accents and said the US firm enjoyed big cost savings by shipping out customer care, technical support and back office jobs to India. "How much effort does it take to neutralize an accent which may have inflections of the mother tongue? India has enough graduates with technical aptitude and good communication skills," he added. The world's largest personal computer maker expects growth to exceed industry growth in 2005 on the back of multiple growth opportunities, chairman Michael Dell said. "Our EPS will grow faster than revenue. We see multitude of growth opportunities for Dell, including new products, services, new geographies," Dell said in Mohali, Chandigarh. "We expect to continue to grow faster than industry."
